I am very impressed with this scanner. For half a year I'm going to another place and I have to take my things with me, so there's no place for books. I have a few guides that I use a lot, but they're not available electronically, so they can't come. This scanner solves the problem. The customer support is really great. As another reviewer noted, glossy or semi-glossy pages don't scan without reflection distortion, but they are working on a solution to this problem and have offered me free alternative lighting for these types of pages. I also received an answer to a question in less than a day. The included manual is pretty sparse, so I highly recommend you watch the videos before your first scan. You can find it on their website in the support section or via a link in the software. The video will guide you through most of the steps required. The scanner is very well packaged and comes with a foot pedal and a touch button. The pedal works great when scanning books since you need both hands. Books are meant to be learned, so first choose a small book or guide to practice with. It took me a few times to position and use the fingertips correctly, but now my results are good. One thing the manual doesn't mention: if you scanned a page poorly, click on it on the right side of the screen to bring up a list of all your recent scans. A menu will appear under the title of this page. Click on "Rescan" which means "Rescan". You can then rescan the page and the original image will be automatically replaced. Here you can also delete a page by clicking "Delete" or insert another page by clicking "Insert". I've found that no matter how careful I am about placing the thumb recess, if I'm scanning a 500-page book with a hard spine that I've broken, the pages will scan at an angle. There are options to fix pages, but this requires editing each page. A little tedious, but the end result is very good, so for me it's worth it. I used to have a flat book scanner that required each page of the book to be stacked on the edge of the scanner. In comparison, this scanner is amazing and very fast. I have scanned about 1500 pages so far and the program has never crashed. I have not used the WIFI service and probably will not. I'm happy to use the laptop's USB port for scanning. A firmware update was recently released that I had to apply before I could use the program, and a software update was released in mid-December that may have fixed some of the previously reported issues. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.
