Review on HyperX Alloy FPS Pro Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard: Compact & Clicky with Cherry MX Blue - Red LED Backlit! by Chris Elam

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good build and features but no quality control.

I received two faulty boards in a row, my original board and a replacement board from Revain. I'll preface it by saying that this is the first mechanical keyboard I've bought, although not the first I've used. At first glance, this keyboard is amazing. Affordable, very well built, stylish RGB and very responsive Silver Speed switches that are great for fast gaming yet clicky enough for typing. Now I'm typing this on one of the boards and it's beautiful. Even most stabilized keys feel great. Obviously the stabilized keys aren't as good as the cap-on-switch key, but RShift, Enter, Space, and Backspace do a great job. The problem seems to be in LShift. On both boards I have LShift rattles that switch between a soft and stiff feel. The switch at least registers the actuation well, but it's actually unacceptable for a key to feel so bad, especially when that key is used in a large number of games and this keyboard is primarily marketed as a gaming keyboard. LShift actually feels worse than the membrane keys on the keyboard I'm switching from. It's a stabilized key but it's not really a reason to feel that bad, I really think they just lack a quality control department if they're acceptable to ship. I know many FPS games don't use LShift and many typists prefer RShift for typing, but one of the main reasons I bought this keyboard is to improve Overwatch's responsiveness. The clatter and intermittent harshness of this key killed me more than I care to admit. So I will be returning both defective boards and will not try another one. It's very sad because this keyboard has almost all the features I need (although it would be nice if it was available with Cherry MX Browns). I need to find a brand that takes QC more seriously. I've attached a video comparing the letter keys and the shift key. It's not very noticeable on the video, but in person the clatter and key hardness + softness are very noticeable and uncomfortable.

Pros
  • Gaming Keyboards
Cons
  • Good but not great
