I have been using this cat food for a few years now since one of my cats developed a kidney stone. After finding out, talking to the vet, and being prescribed an expensive brand name food, I did the research and took matters into my own hands. Since I didn't want to feed my 3 cats two different types of food, I had to save. and find out what works best for a person with urinary problems. A small study has shown that apart from some of the main ingredients (chicken/beef/mutton/etc) the main difference between standard cat food and urinary tract food is more or less reduced/eliminated magnesium. Armed with this knowledge, I set out to find something to replace the Hills prescription C/D food that my vet had hoarded me financially. "Better" This Purina formulation matches just enough (particularly in the magnesium content) that I prefer it for my cats. It sits right at the intersection of value and performance as all three of my cats have been on this food for several years and are as healthy as ever. The one prone to bubble crystals (like the $2,000 cat) has not reappeared since and showed no signs of recurrence on subsequent visits.
