I have owned several 3TB and 4TB drives from the Backup Plus line of drives over the years Bought several versions of Seagate and they have generally always been reliable and not too slow. But I did notice that the drive I bought this week has an ST4000DM004 which is an SMR (Coated Magnetic Recording) drive. The drive was manufactured in 2017/09 (I bought it on October 1st) so this could be a new change in the product line. simply, SMR discs write slower in certain situations due to the way the data is stored. Over the years I've only bought 3TB and 4TB models for performance reasons because they didn't use the SMR drives that the higher capacity models use. Now that Seagate has switched to SMR drives for 4TB Backup Plus, performance has degraded and I cannot recommend this product. valued.
