I would say this is a great place to start if you want to learn about computers and how they work. I’m already thinking of educational projects in STEM that I could get from this and a RaspberryPi. iwon’t say this is a plug and play device because it does take some technical knowledge. I’m not sure how it would look or work on a more mainstream OS. I plugged this into a 2009 netbook running FreeBSD and got NMEA language stream from /dev/cuaU0 pretty quickly. Took about 15 minutes to get a lock but was very happy how easy it was. I’m in the US, so it’s using NAVSTAR. My first thing is to automate my telescope using Python.
