This drive is complete bullshit! I tested the drive with H2Testw and within the first 2 minutes the drive approaches the advertised speed and then immediately crashes. The drive heats up so much that it brakes hard! I saw the manufacturer's response to some of the reviews here where they complained about the drop in speed and they say it's normal because that's how the protection works. Well, that's right, that's how protection works, but WRONG, that's NOT OK! After copying just 10GB of data, the hard drive speed drops to 27MB/s writing and 180MB/s reading. This is categorically unacceptable. If you only want to copy tiny files, you don't need a 512GB drive. If you want to read and write large files, this thing will last forever! It took more than 5 hours to fill up the hard drive. FIVE O'CLOCK! So yes, it slows down to protect itself from overheating, but the fact that it gets that hot in the first place is utter insanity and a huge mistake! Check out the Samsung BAR Plus 256GB. It maintains full speed across the entire 256GB, takes about 20 minutes to fill up, and never overheats. So double it. Do you want 40 minutes for 512 GB or MORE THAN FIVE HOURS!?!? The choice is obvious. This product is bullshit. I'm sending it back for two Samsungs. EDIT: As I expected. Your trash will be cut out and pasted back. With the addition of lies that this happens with all flash drives. NOT CORRECT! The vast majority of all flash drives do NOT heat up to the point of insanity.
