Well, that was totally worth it.
Ok, I haven't quite figured out what the wax sticks (crayons) are for or how they'd help, but oh my word, the markers are so worth the price. You can still see the scratches if you search for them, but my rather sad looking mid-century modern desk no longer looks sad at all. It's an amazing transformation. Attached are before and after pictures of the desk's top, where schmutz got under the blotter and scratched up the surface horribly. As you can see, it looks a hell of a lot better after 5 minutes with the oak shade marker and wiping it down with an old sock.
