The main aspect of this product is whether your dog will adapt to it. It's a gamble so I don't think you can rate this product low if your dog doesn't accept it. My pup was about 11 weeks old when I got this. Before I could assemble it, she was on it and using it. I was blown away by how quickly she got down to business. Her daily "accidents" went from 4 to 1. At first she bit and pulled like real grass but now she is 14 weeks old and has stopped biting her. Most of time. If your puppy keeps biting him, you can tie the grass. And that's my first downside with this product - it doesn't bind. A small clip or latch at the corners would be great. I'll admit I don't really care right now because it's stopped, but if your dog keeps tugging at it this feature would be great. Second, I would highly recommend putting a washcloth in the tank. The reason is that it helps with cleaning and smell. And that brings me to the biggest negative - the smell. Firstly, there is almost no product that does not smell after a while. The smell isn't very strong, but I'm very sensitive to it. Not only does it smell like urine, it has a weird plastic smell. The pup doesn't seem to mind. I recommend replacing the urine pad (if you use one) every few days and cleaning the product every week. If you are not using a urine pad I would recommend cleaning the product every few days. The durability of the product depends on how you clean it. Of course you need to clean all three layers, but the grass and the middle layer (to keep the grass away from the urine) are the most important. The middle layer has holes for urine, but that means it also has spots for urine to get in. So always clean them. To mitigate the smell, I do a two-step cleanse: 1.) Exfoliate with Pinsol with lemon until completely cleansed. 2.) Rub with a mixture of vinegar and water to kill the odor. It seems to be working for me. Bottom line: I had to ask myself if I wanted this product that might have a bit of a smell or is meant to eliminate accidents around the house. I preferred the former. I think before you buy this ask yourself this question. My puppy is still very young so this is a great tool to help her learn how to use the potty and keep my house clean.
