I bought this to use as a treasure chest in my class. I had a crappy cardboard one but never liked the look of it and it got pretty worn down with use. That should be enough for a long time, even with little hands digging into it in search of the deserved prize. I wanted it to look a little more "pirate" so I bought this metallic skull decal for the front. Wow, this sticker makes it super cool and the kids are really keen on the "win box". I didn't use glue on the decal as I didn't want to ruin the beautiful chest if I didn't like the metal decal, instead I just stuck it on with sticky putty. It's been running for months now and hasn't moved. It can be completely removed without foreign glue. The latch and handles are actually metal, and there are a lot of small items in the box. The lid is hollow so you can even pour something in and it's still easy to close. It looks very expensive (especially compared to cheap cardboard) so I don't mind having it on the shelf in my classroom. My philosophy is that I feel my class shouldn't be filled with garbage. My home decor isn't filled with outdoor cardboard boxes, and I respect kids enough to feel their cool surroundings need to look pretty, too. I have real lamps and I will put your work in real frames. Even if it's a cheap frame, it's different from tape on the walls. They also deserve to be surrounded by a comfortable, orderly environment since that is where they spend so much of their time. In any case (off-topic I know!) the box is great. When it arrived I kind of wanted to keep it for my house to keep next to the closet for things like gloves, scarves, etc. It's not lined with anything (just wood), so if you're planning on putting something very fragile (like silk or similar) inside, you might want to glue on a felt lining or similar (which would be very easy since it's square). There are cords, remote controls that we don't use often, pens, matches for candles, extra coasters, etc. There are so many of these boxes, they are so small that almost nothing fits. It is particularly nice that large objects can be stored in it. You can even use it to hold some slippers or something in the hallway. Even a thin blanket (though not a big fluffy one) will do if you like having it in your living room and don't know where to put it when you're not using it. You can really put anything in it and have easy access to smaller items, but still "stash" everything so it's less cluttered. When I retire this will be one of the few things I will take home with me! until then I might get another one for the house! :D
