Review on West Digital 4TB Surveillance HDD - 5400 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5in - WD Purple40PURZ (Old Version) by Sara Mahoney

This drive has been running for over a year and a half with 3 cameras feeding it 24/7. A 1080p camera, a 960p camera and a 480p camera at 25-30 fps. The drive works great and is very write and temperature stable (used in Mac Pro). Videos may take a little longer to load, especially while recording, depending on disk activity and file size. For a 1 hour 5GB clip, I might wait 5 seconds for the file to open and another 5 for it to play smoothly. Slower than you might see on a traditional drive considering it's a 5400rpm drive, but well worth it. With my configuration, it keeps recording for just over two weeks for all cameras. The drive currently has 15,375 hours and both the SMART health and overall health of the drive are 100%. Not a single broken sector or signs of wear. I will only replace it in the future because I need a bigger one and even then it will stay in RAID until it fails.
