I was very disappointed with the terminals on this unit. PetSafe mentions that up to 14 gauge wire can be used. The connectors built into this device are too light to clamp 14 gram solid wire. Plastic on one side and a very light spring. Compare this to the connectors on my stereo speakers, which are similar in construction but have a strong spring and metal on both sides. In addition, the speakers also offer the option of using screw terminals. I understand the place is expensive but my overall impression is that they made it as cheap as possible. I solved the problem by connecting a 16g stranded wire to my 14g wire and then connecting the 16g wire to the terminals of the surge protector. I hope the surge protector electronics are of better quality than the clamps.
