This laser rod has clear advantages over similar products. It projects a line instead of a point, making it easier to see. The line direction can be adjusted. It comes with a threaded socket, so a small power transformer will replace one of the lightbulbs in your opener. While this sacrifices a small amount of light, the laser turns on as soon as you open the garage door and then turns off when your opener's light goes out. In my garage the ceiling outlet has an outlet. So I didn't have to redo the outlet to power the laser. The unit comes with mounting hardware, wire nuts and lots of wires. So it was very easy to find and install. This is a really nice addition to our new home. One reviewer said the device was cheaply built and the laser light was weak and difficult to tune. I respectfully disagree. While the laser at the garage entrance is difficult to see in bright sunlight, my wife and I can easily see the red line in the garage. The device has a plastic body, but it's well built and I had no trouble adjusting the beam. Around each laser body was a threaded nut that I could tighten to hold the laser in place. For the price this is a quality product.
