I make and drink two 40 ounce raw green veggie fruit smoothies every day (as posted on youtube). We have the $400 Blendtec and it does the job perfectly, replacing the previous generation VitaMix that was so-so. The 600W Oster Beehive 6 Cup Blender produces the same high quality smoothies as our Blendtec in the same amount of time and for only $60! Unbelievable! If you're looking for an inexpensive smoothie drink maker, I wholeheartedly recommend this Easter. It blends ice, frozen fruits, vegetables, and herbs as well or better than our $400 machine. No problems with lack of power, burning engines etc. Other advantages of Oster Beehive. You can get original replacement/extra jars made of glass or stainless steel for $20 and plastic jars of all sizes for less than $10. Note that Vitamix and Blendtec containers are $150! And because the Oster's blade and seal can be easily removed and replaced, the Oster is 100 times easier to use, clean and maintain than its much more expensive counterparts. And although the glass container is heavy, it's too cool. Blendtec and Vitamix plastic containers age over time, but Oster does not. As for the noise level. The Oster is no louder than our two expensive devices. Our Blendtec has a great preset feature. Press the smoothie button and you'll have the perfect smoothie. Oster has a switch, on, off and pulse. For my smoothies, I pulse a few times and then let it run for about a minute. Perfect every time! Result. I wish I could try Oster before buying more expensive devices. I would save a lot of money. Oh, and the Easter looks cool! Note that I bought the Easter from Revain and it had free delivery within four days! Revain's price and service can't be beat. Update September 20, 2012: I continue to use Oster to make two smoothies every day and it works great. I've found that the order in which you put the ingredients in the container is important. I find this order works best: 1: liquid, 2: protein powder (if using), 3: leafy greens, 4: fruit/firm veg, 5: frozen fruit and ice. I put points 1-3 in a container and run for 10-20 seconds. With the blender running, I chop "4" items, then place items 4 and 5 in a container and blend for about a minute. Works great every time. Update: January 2013 I continue to use this blender every day for my smoothies. Last week I had to sharpen the blades as they just wouldn't cut (pun intended). This is easy if you have a small whetstone. If not, a new ring nut and gasket set will cost you a whopping $5. Whatever the case, the blender keeps ticking and works great with my veggie, ice cream, apple, carrot, frozen berry, and protein powder smoothies. Now I use a different order: water, ice, frozen berries, leafy greens, protein powder (a few legumes), apples, carrots (mixture). Works perfectly! Still a very satisfied customer of Oster and Revain. Update: July 2013 I continue to use this blender every day. wife uses it too. Still works great! Update: April 2014 Continue to use Oster almost daily (jump back and forth with Blendtec). I've found that omitting carrots greatly improves the drinkability of smoothies. I also wanted to point out that while Blendtec makes a smoother smoothie, it contains a lot more air, which causes bloating, belching, etc. One of the advantages of Blendtec is that I can make a slightly larger batch. also used Oster (and Blendtec) in a health seminar demonstrating the preparation of nut and grain milks. Worked great! One more comment. When I make a smoothie, I usually put everything in a container and mix it up. However, I've learned from a few smoothie workshops that it's best to mix liquid and veggies first, then add fruit and solid veggies. And I learned not to use carrots!
