Review on πŸ“ Precision Digital Micrometer Caliper Tool for Accurate Measurements by Jason Gopinath

Revainrating 5 out of 5

First it needs to be cleaned...

On delivery like 99.9% quick I opened the box, got all the papers out, removed the plastic wrap and there it was, trying to open it. It was impossible. The protective coating they used blocked the calipers, kind of glued them together. bang! Instant "Oh shit." It took a minute to figure out what was wrong. Long story short it was cleaned with about 3 in 1 penetrating oil, took about 30 minutes and some grease. You actually have to take it apart to really clean the inside of the saddle and the bearing that the set screws sit on, this one has it. Oh yes, the included instructions tell you how to clean it. Have years of experience with accurate measurements. Tool, had Starret vernier micrometers from 1" to 6" etc. I reckon they can give you +/- 0.001 accuracy. The biggest limiting factor will be your ability to use it. If you have experience with precision tools you know what I'm talking about. The metric, inch and fraction functions are great, only real toolmakers, salespeople etc. already know the decimal equivalent for fractions: you're probably getting lazy with the Fractions button. Conclusion: Nice device. 6-inch calipers are enough for every job. If you can handle the cleanup, there's no reason to spend more. I'm seriously tempted to get a second set but can't think of a good reason why two are better as I've had my calipers for who knows how long but they aren't metric.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
