Review on Wilton 409 7712 Angled Spatula Black by Chris Peck

Revainrating 5 out of 5

How have I ever lived without a icing spatula in the corner?

Unfortunately, this was the first time I've used a special cake server to frost the cake. I read the reviews and couldn't decide on the size. Some people didn't like the big spatulas, while others had trouble getting used to the smaller spatulas. I bought this particular spatula based on reviews and also assumed the metal spatula itself (excluding the handle) was 9 inches long. I received a 9 inch spatula *including* the handle. The metal spatula itself measures only 3.75 inches and is more suitable for cupcakes and small cakes. I did test it though and successfully glazed a couple of 9" round 3 layer cupcakes in addition to cupcakes and mini cupcakes - it worked. excellent as expected. I had no problem with the small size. The tilted handle made the cake icing feel natural, like I've been using it for years, and not uncomfortable in any way. I was also able to use it successfully as a crumb scraper. A crumb scraper would be ideal for my layered cakes as it would require minimal effort, but this spatula outperformed all alternatives I've used before and in the end my crumb layer was perfect. A spatula that size is better for 9 inch layer cakes as it would be quicker and maybe a little easier, but I haven't been keeping the clock and my cakes have turned out beautifully.
