75 minutes of work = wrong

I'm sure what I write here will void my warranty, but I bought this glue gun specifically because of the 75 minutes of work promised on the packaging. Long before I did the math and then disassembled the glue gun, I drained its battery several times, and I'll tell you that 75 minutes is pipe dream. My actual experience and subsequent math confirm this. I was very disappointed that in real life I only got 23-28 minutes between each charge. I like portability, don't know why the Revain is asking about weight, but it's heavier than most hot glue guns due to the internal battery, but no heavier than a real gun, so no complaints. I didn't feel like returning it (which I very well could have done) as I couldn't find any other mini guns that last longer and instead I decided to just add a few more batteries in parallel. So I started disassembling the gun. to add a pigtail connector so I can easily plug in another set of batteries if one runs out. In doing so I found that it is powered by a single Li-Ion 18650 battery (as I suspected) with a capacity of 2000mAh or 2Ah. Then I decided I wanted to find out where they got that 75 minutes (1.25 hours) from, so let's check the math. The bottom of the handle indicates that it is a 3.7V, 20W device. Using these numbers I can determine how much it will actually take (how many amp hours) to run this gun for 75 minutes. 20 watts * 1.25 hours = 25 watt hours. To get amp hours from watt hours I divide by voltage (3.7) which is = 6.75 amp hours or 6750 mAh. That's a far cry (almost 3.5x) from the 2000mAh provided by the single 18650 battery in the pen. But it confirmed my experience that it would only run for about 1/3 of the advertised 75 minutes since it was actually running at just under 1/3 of the required amp hours. I went ahead and made an extra pack of 2 extra 2.6Ah LG 18650 batteries in addition to the 2Ah battery that was included. It's a little clunky as there's no convenient place to install extra batteries, but changing the batteries should have been an easy task from the start. With this setup, I get around 85-90 minutes of actual usage on a single charge. Overall the gun works great, although it can take a little longer to warm up than others, but if 75 minutes of runtime between charges is a huge benefit, don't base your purchase on that number.

Pros
  • Glues
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

So handy with no cord. Wish it stayed charged longer and charged faster.

Barely low temp reached, several attempts and fully charged each time. Not high temp at all.
