automatic level @ + - 4 degrees, I mounted my unit on a tripod but the clamp that comes with it works well too. This device burns batteries, expect 3-4 hours of operation from a set of AA batteries. I used this laser to install tile on a bathroom wall. No problems with the accuracy of the plumb and level lines. I haven't really tested its ability or accuracy to work more than 4-8 feet from my work surface, but I suspect the lines could get a little blurry and wide. I believe the papers said 08.03-05.16 @ 40 feet. This is overcome by using the center of the beam and is suitable for most small projects. All in all a great little laser for the price.
