I got the AirPods as a gift about a year ago and they were good, but I decided to try something new because the battery life of my AirPods is too low began to shrink. Tempo 30 exceeded my expectations! They outperform AirPods in sound, battery life, fit, controls, and feel more expensive, but cost less than 1/4 the price of Apple. I don't normally do product reviews, but I think people should stop spending money on AirPods! - Sound quality It's not even close - the Tempo 30's sound is much better than the AirPods and they can reach much higher volumes. I've always found AirPods to be a bit flat and muffled, but the Tempo 30 has a very balanced sound. The bass is deep, the vocals are clear, the highs are clear but not harsh. Tempo's "Bass Mode" is also a nice extra feature. The LifeBack Bay battery wins here, both in terms of headphone battery life and the amount of battery stored in the case. Back Bay headphones can last a full week before I need to charge them. With AirPods, I'd have to charge them every other day or I'd be stuck with no music. Quality of materials If I were to assume that the Back Bay headphones are more expensive because of the materials. The Tempo 30 has a lightweight metal body that feels really premium compared to Apple's plastic body. The Tempo earbuds also have a nice mirror finish on the top, similar to the Samsung Galaxy earbuds. Bluetooth Connection The connection on both pairs is reliable and I haven't had any connection problems. The only area where AirPods outperforms is when connecting to two devices at once. Airpods make it easier to switch from phone to laptop. With Tempo, all I have to do is disconnect my phone to connect to my laptop - ControlsBack Bay wins here again. Tempo 30 offers a full set of controls (pause, play, volume, skip track and bass mode, movie mode). With the AirPods I can only pause, play and adjust the volume. Both models offer touch controls. Microphone The AirPods mic is only marginally better than the Tempo 30. Both do a good job of canceling out background noise, but I think the AirPods make my voice sound a little better. Fit The AirPods never fit in my ears and always fell out when I exercised. The Tempo 30 comes with 6 ear sizes and I was able to find the perfect fit. So far they haven't fallen out during runs or HIIT workouts. In summary, you don't have to give Apple $150 for a great pair of headphones. Tempo 30 is really better for the price.
