Works well but has limitations

Here's the thing. I've tried many different lipstick formulas over the years, from traditional wax-based lipsticks to the more common water-based and clay-based lipsticks. I wanted to find something that offered medium hold without a lot of shine. This product from Uppercut claims to do just that. However, here are a few things to consider before buying/using this lipstick: It is very light and creamy in texture and is easy to spread on hands and hair. However, once the product hits your hair, it sets very quickly, leaving little room for re-treatment after the first use (perhaps one of the areas where the original Uppercut Deluxe Pomade worked better). If you don't apply this to damp or slightly damp hair, be prepared for some hair to fly out and make it more difficult to style or comb your desired hairstyle. You don't need much to apply it properly, so good in the sense that you don't have to use up a can quickly with daily use. If you have longer or thicker hair than me, your results may vary and you may need more product. As for the smell of the product, it is a creme brulee flavor. So if you don't like that overly sweet taste, you might not be a fan of it. When it gets on the hair, the smell is not that noticeable. As for the holding power, I would say that it is on the border between medium and strong fixation. If you don't follow with a light hairspray like I do, you may need something with a higher hold like Uppercut Monster Hold or Baxter Matte Clay Pomade. I will also say that if you are someone who changes your style or runs your fingers through your hair all day like I sometimes do, the hold will not be as strong and eventually your hair will move/up more naturally your head. which is good if you want to look 90's style with loose/unkempt hair. It's a matte finish as advertised, so shine is minimal unless you apply it to wet hair. This stuff was also pretty easy to wash off my hands and hair in the shower so I had no problems. So overall the product works as advertised but you may need to adjust your finishing methods or expectations to use it long term.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
