This unit is mounted on the bow of my boat and is used exclusively for 2D chirp sonar. It is basically suitable for this. The screen is bright and I can read all the numbers displayed while standing. Medium chirps tend to give the best bottom structure return while high chirps tend to be better for vertical jigging. I also get a lot more noise from the trolling motor on high frequencies than on mids. The device tends to lose traction. I call this "shutdown" and it will fail multiple times during a day's fishing. Then he will collect his thoughts and everything will be fine. I don't use downscan which I see as just an attempt to create a televised image of the 2D sonar interpretation (similar to using fish symbols). Finally, the cards are just gross. Even if I wanted to use GPS while driving, the processor speed is too low. It's like Lowrance got the last Pentium 386 processor in 1987 and used it in the Hook 9. If you can find one for a really good price and all you need is a 2D chirp sonar unit, most of the time it will do the job well. .
