Shortly after I bought it I wanted to make sure it worked so I tried putting it in places I thought it would detect carbon monoxide. Right next to a car's exhaust, next to my oven during a self-cleaning cycle, etc. I've never seen anything other than 0 on the display. Just thought I had good devices and wasn't worried. 4 years later after purchase, the detector starts to go crazy and squeak. Scared me to death. I opened the windows, grabbed the detector and carried it outside. He didn't tell me what level he found. Nothing worked in the house so it shouldn't have been a concern. I took the batteries out and put them back in and everything seemed fine. Brought it back and found nothing. I've run an oven cleaning cycle (with the windows open) with this one side by side and it still found nothing. After a few days it starts to squeak from time to time. He accidentally dumped himself. Didn't give a low battery alert though because it should have said "LB" but it didn't. I cannot be sure if the device ever worked.
