I bought this to upgrade an old E6600 dual core machine and it still works (well it's memory so either work or blue screen ). My main machine is a real monster (with i7, ssd, sata 3, dual gtx580) but somehow it had voltage issues and windows kept crashing on boot. Since I needed a machine for work, I decided to upgrade the old one and fix the problem later. Now it seems that with all the advances that have been made over the last few years, memory size and graphics card (I have a spare GTX 260 for the old machine) make a real difference as the performance is between my old machine and the new one one is pretty much the same except for the extreme and rare cases. So if you have an old dual-core processor, upgrade it with reliable memory (I would only recommend 6GB on a 64-bit OS, more would be a waste in most cases), it's a lot. Yes, all that shiny new hardware is tempting, but paying attention to the actual bottlenecks can save you big bucks without sacrificing performance.
