Cat5e/6 connectors are no exception. I just built some cables using CMP 24AWG shielded CAT 5E solid copper wire and they worked great. Another good thing about them is that they work with some cheap rubber caps that I have on hand. I have not been able to get Platinum Tools Cat5 or Cat6 fittings to work with them. As far as strain relief goes, I wish PTools made the metal crimp a bit more generous so it could wrap completely around the LAN cable when crimped. Oddly enough I have several of them out of order, ie when testing (with PTools VDV MapMaster which I really enjoy using) some contacts showed up open. I've never had a failure of PTools fittings and must have used a few hundred of them.
