My previous dive computer was a Suunto Zoop. It was ok - entry-level at an entry-level price - but I never found it very user-friendly. I'm comfortable with Garmin devices because I use them for other sports, and I've dreamed of them making a dive computer for years. The price isn't that high considering it's a dive computer PLUS a multisport watch. I was also looking for a replacement for my Forerunner 620 so having everything in one package wasn't a problem. Yes, AI would be nice, but for me it's not a crucial factor as I won't be changing my SPG just because I have a new computer. I mean, I also don't "need" to know my heart rate while diving or see entry and exit points on a map. but I like having that information available to me. I can wear it as a daily watch, which I definitely couldn't with the Zoop. I can change the level of conservatism, which I couldn't do with Zoop either. It's a lot more comfortable for me, and although the screen is smaller, I find it easier to read underwater because it's a lot brighter. I've had it for a few months now - use it for scuba, running, swimming, walking and cardio - and haven't looked back for a second. Change the safety stop options. Which would be nice, except that it automatically sets itself at 15-20 feet and doesn't trigger until you actually go up 15 feet. At this point you can go down a few feet as long as you stay over 20. because if you hit 21, the safety stop pauses and you have to go back to 15 to start again. I can't figure out why it doesn't work when you get to 20ft. that seems pretty logical to me. UPDATED x2: Fixed the safety stop issue!
