Review on πŸ’Ύ 240GB Transcend JetDrive 820 PCIe Gen3 x2 SSD (TS240GJDM820) by Josh Sheehan

Surprisingly easy to install.

I bought this to upgrade the memory in my wife's mid 2015 13" MacBook Pro. I wasn't aware of this when I ordered a 960GB Transcend JetDrive 820 PCIe Gen3 x 2 SSD (TS960GJDM820) which actually came with two special screwdrivers to open the case and eject the drive. The instructions on Transcend's website were easy to follow. First, I have Time Machine backed up to a USB drive. Then I turned off my MacBook. Then open the case, remove the old SSD and install the new SSD. I then turned the MacBook back on and partitioned and formatted the drive. I then chose the option to restore from a Time Machine backup. After about 45 minutes it was time, the Mac was like new but with significantly more storage space. I had to manually partition and format the drive. When I told it to partition and format as part of a Time Machine recovery, it crashed almost immediately. What I didn't understand is that Apple integrates Recovery y into the firmware of newer MacBooks, allowing you to restore your MacBook without finding the OSX installation media. It's not a partition on the hard drive.

Pros
  • Handsome
Cons
  • Legacy Model
