Review on Advanced Replacement Filters for Hoover Platinum Stick and Hand Vac Linx: Enhanced Performance and Durability by Rachel Mercer

I've read a lot of reviews saying "These filters are cheap foam" but I didn't realize they could damage my vacuum. As soon as I put a cheap yellow filter in my vacuum cleaner, I noticed a burning smell while vacuuming. With the yellow filter, the air flow is greatly reduced by the vacuum. I put my hand on the vent where the air comes out and felt the air just an inch from the vent. When I put the dirty original filter back in place I could smell air 2-3 inches from the vent and there was no burning smell. I think the burning smell was caused by the engine overheating trying to force air through this filter. From now on I use the dirty original filter. They are made out of styrofoam which is used as a chair cushion so don't let enough air in. Don't buy them.
