I live in a flooded area and even during relatively dry periods my drain pump discharges water several times a day. I spent the powerless parts of Hurricane Irene sleeping in the basement, praying the generator wouldn't fail and groundwater wouldn't flood the basement. As Hurricane Sandy approached I did what a lot of other people seem to have done and ordered it on Friday and paid extra for a day of shipping. I spent about $70 on all the Sharkbite fittings, pipe and ball valve I would need for a permanent install. It was a community project that was completed in an hour, but I just couldn't relax. It can't be that this little piece of plastic saves you from that awful feeling that comes sooner or later when the electricity goes out and you know you can't draw water forever. The power went out on Monday afternoon. and didn't come back until Saturday morning. I proceeded further into the basement with a flashlight, expecting this little toy to breathe its last as it ran into the water pouring out of the basement walls. Each time the system just worked its magic. When the power was turned back on, everything in the basement was as dry as it had been when the lights were off. The electric pump turned on and everything was back to normal. I was able to spend the storm and its aftermath reading and watching TV (which was powered by a generator instead of a sump pump) instead of killing myself by siphoning water and worrying. I haven't received my water bill yet but when I do I will update this review. Although I suspect it's worth it. I can't see why I would need this, but if I had to install one of these pumps every year for the rest of my life, it would still be worth it.
