Not as advertised in Cargo Bed & Rack Accessories

I did not receive the item shown in the description. What I received had triangular clamps with two U channel bolt options. It worked, but not before I went to the local hardware store and spent a fortune on stainless steel screws. Then adjust the clock based on the geometry of the clamps in relation to the bogie body. I have a 2018 Tacoma TRD or DCLB. Not only are the factory bolts too long, but the bolt head is too wide to work with these clamps. The factory screws touch the inside of my bed so they can't be screwed in. I spent over $60 on stainless hardware because of this problem. I would return the order but the stand was needed for a family vacation where we are leaving in a few days. And since it took 3 days longer than expected to receive my order, I do not have time to return it and risk not having a suitable replacement before we leave. Even with the best hardware I've bought, the screws are so close to the bed that none of my outlets or T-handles could get to them no matter how hard I tried. Even long hex heads with a ball end were useless here. Even with more tools at my disposal. I'm an auto mechanic by trade and I keep no less than 6 full sized clip-on tool chests in my garage at home filled with all sorts of tools to tackle just about any project, but guess what I had to use to hold those mounts to install. I had to use an allen wrench. That's right, the steel base is L-shaped, which still wasn't an easy task to align the tool with the screw head. I had to use a small hammer and knock the hex wrench out of the bolt after every 150 degree turn, because of the angle and close proximity of the bolt between the truck bed and the inside side of the bed, the wrench got stuck. Imagine doing this for every mount on your car in a 95 degree Florida summer for over 3 hours. The 3 hours also included the assembly of the Thule roof rack system, but still took too long. Not to mention the gas and time I spent cruising around town looking for the best gear. I am very disappointed in these brackets. I wonder if the ones shown in the description would be easier to install? I know they would take up less space on the bed. These triangular brackets protrude from the truck bed, making loading and unloading large items difficult. But for now I have to live with it. After installation I can say that the Thule Rack system is very solid, with these clips in the rails there is no noticeable play in the racks at all.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I won't say anything
