I read other reviews that it doesn't press on anything and has an unusable hold. I slipped the clip through the hole and it pressed perfectly against the edge of the table. I read a review that it doesn't measure yarn. The knob at the end is used to adjust the weight of the yarn. I walked over it three times with a single layer of wool/mohair and got up 50 to 52 feet each time. I've run a 2-ply sock through 3 times after adjusting the grip at the end and got a bit more variation, but still between 105-110ft each time. I bought it with the idea of returning it if I see the same issues mentioned in other reviews. It's not perfect, but it's better than a criterium or counting the "yards" between my nose and fingertips. I keep it.
