The first claim under the product description states that it has "floating plates", which is important to distribute heat evenly throughout the hair and prevent multiple passes. The plates are fixed, not floating, and the only area along the plates that came together when closed was at the most distal end. Even with maximum compression of the plates to force them together, they only touched at the distal end, leaving an ever-widening gap toward the handle. Instead, I bought the Terviix Mini Pro straightener, which has great floating plates that easily connect fully together, three heat settings, and a swivel cord.
