Review on πŸ“Ή Sony DCRPC110 Digital HandyCam Camcorder with Integrated Digital Still Mode (No Longer in Production) by Shawn Reiter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great Sony camcorder but not a home camcorder

I recently decided to buy this camera and sell my TRV900 because I've really realized that I need something smaller to take away. It was a difficult choice as the picture quality and photos were much better with the TRV900. But I just couldn't get past the size. This one is so small for the features you get. It has many, many thoughtful features. For example, it has a small fold-down handle to make taking pictures easier (always a problem with these small digital cameras). You can connect the camera directly to your computer via USB without having to buy a card reader. A pop-up flash is useful for indoor shots. Convenient menu. High enough resolution for a digital video camera. I love Sony batteries that tell you how much time you have left. The same applies to cassettes and memory cards. Lots of features that a camera of this level should have. Now for the cons. No progressive scan. Let me say it again. NO PROGRESSIVE SCAN! God knows why Sony keeps turning this feature off. It was so striking between this camera and the TRV900 that has progressive scan when you're capturing stills from video. The ones from this camera aren't nearly as good. Not even close. If the subject is moving at all (which is usually the whole point of trying to frame a video) without progressive scan it just isn't as clear, sharp, colorful etc. Why Sony doesn't put progressive scan on their cameras is beyond me . Most of the other issues I have with this camera are pretty minimal. Some of the buttons are hard to find, the zoom is awkward to use and quite sensitive, the photo button is right next to it so I often press the wrong button etc. Pretty typical issues for a camera of this size. Without progressive scan this would definitely be a 5 star camcorder. Apologies to Sony. you blew it up again
