I have a serious problem with a broken left wrist resulting in massive duck hooks . It worked for me initially, but after a while I went back to the same duck hooks. The yellow plastic plate is not stiff enough to break your wrist. Then I remembered the old trick of sticking popsicle sticks in the top of my glove and under my watch to do the same thing as that glove. So I put two popsicle sticks in that glove where the yellow plastic sheet is and immediately stopped clinging to it. It hurts a little and can be difficult to get through, but it saves me from embarrassing ducking and I'm enjoying the game again.
