These are really great hooks and a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately, when I first ordered them (from a Feiw third party), the hooks I received were fake. I immediately ordered another set from Revain which turned out to be genuine so I could take side by side photos before returning the fakes. In all my photos, the fakes are on the left and the real Clover Amours are on the right. The first thing that struck me about the fake hooks was that they were poorly packaged. Although the box had the Clover logo and looked exactly like the item listing images, the hooks in the box were all messed up. Genuine Clover hooks have a properly sized gray foam base and a clear plastic top layer that supports and separates the hooks. The fake ones were made of thin white foam that had a series of large holes drilled in the back and small holes in the front, preventing the hooks from showing up in the rainbow pattern you see in the photos. Not a problem per se, but a clear sign that something is wrong. After sorting the hooks by size, I also noticed that the 3.5mm and 3.75mm hooks are an almost indistinguishable shade of pink. In the original Clover set, they are red and light pink, respectively. As for the hooks themselves, there are several ways to tell the difference between real and fake ones. Original Clover hooks have a matte finish on the metal part of the hook, which helps them slide in and out of stitches easily. The fakes are made of shiny metal and have a little more puncture resistance. Genuine Clover hooks are stamped 'Clover' on the front and 'Japan' on the back on the underside of the handle.
