I've been actively using my PS3 Slim for three years. Anyone who owns one knows that the heat dissipation of these things is terrible, and I believe the heat eventually killed the laser. The machine accepted my disc but wouldn't spin and then made a noise like it was being ejected but the disc stayed in the machine. After some research, this was a symptom of a dead laser. I'm a relative newbie when it comes to working with electronics, but this solution was very easy with the help of YouTube. One problem I had was that the part number on the laser I received didn't match the number listed or the number that came off my machine. I got an immediate reply from the supplier that it was a newer laser version of the later Slims and after some googling this was confirmed. I am three months old and the laser works perfectly. * When repairing, make sure the cable is firmly connected to the bottom of the drive. The plug is in terrible shape and it took me a few times to get it right. To be honest I don't think the laser itself is new. It was probably copied from another PS3. It came "naked" in a small box, buffered form - no anti-magnetic tape, not even a bag. I don't care about that though - it worked and I don't expect either of these lasers to be really new.
