Works great as a DVD recorder/copier. How to record videos

I bought this from Best Buy (local return and no problem) after trying Dazzle DC 80 and Pinnacle Studio 9 Movie Box USB (both devices are waste of money!) I wanted to transfer my Hi8 video my 11 month old daughter on DVD for grandparents in other states. If it works, the plan is to transfer Hi8 recordings from vacations, etc. (wife loves watching all the old videos.) The software installs quickly and easily, and the computer (specially built with Celeron 1.2MHz - ever according to system requirements) detects and installs drivers for the recording device. . OK. So far everything is going great. Plug in your Sony camcorder, check and make all the necessary settings, click Record, then click Play. Everything looks good. The video looks a bit choppy and there is no sound in the preview. Don't worry, I know that many capture cards don't play back in full quality during preview. Come back in 2 hours, capture is complete. Click "Create" and then click "Write DVD". Follow all the instructions and the computer will start the burning process. SIX HOURS later, the DVD is processed, authorized and the tray ejects the DVD. Take the DVD to the player in the living room. The wife is delighted. Hit the play button and the entire 2 hour disc looks like time lapse with skipping every few frames! A stand! Tried again, different settings. same results (DVD-RW, so no stand this time. Deleted on my Mac). It was possible to create a DVD with video from Sony Cybershot. Worked so-so, took forever (4.5 hours to burn a 56 minute DVD!) Like a real DVD burner, it worked great with the included Sonic software. Copied created DVDs in no time! Maybe it was just my device, maybe you really need a super super super PC for this to work. Now I have an ADT TV Wonder card. Recording worked great (ironically, it was the program that came with the dc5000 that worked better than the program that came with the card!) Also: Windows XP Movie Maker (latest version: 2.1) didn't work with the dc5000 , ADT TV miracle immediately recognized. !
