We have two dogs who are almost 14 years old and both have arthritis so I know the types of beds they use. Usually they both use the dog ladder at night and sleep with me on my bed - I can't fault them, my mattress is amazing. During the day, however, they prefer dog beds in the main house, where they can take part in everything that happens. This bed is huge - my tall ridgebacks fit comfortably with space and the beagle mix fits in twice. Raised flanks appeal to all five dogs. You like headrest. The cover is removable for washing, but it can be difficult to put it back on smoothly and without wrinkles. My reason for deducting a star is the foam itself. It's actually quite thin. My dogs burrowed into the bed trying to make it more comfortable when it was right on the tiled floor. As soon as I put this bed on a huge soft pillow, the digging stopped. I think after lying squarely on the floor the foam thickens and the dog eventually feels the hard tile underneath.
