Bad design. You will need to use some force to ensure the lid snaps securely into place. Just as I was about to do so, the lid fell through the kettle and my entire arm was submerged in scalding hot water. You could probably use it as a plant watering can, but it's not safe as a teapot. Update: Seller was contacted unsolicited to ask if I would like a replacement item or a full refund. When I asked for a full refund, the request was dealt with quickly.
