I've been using the Munchkin nappy bin for about 6 months now and am back to writing a review hoping it will help other new parents try to find out who buy a bucket for diapers. We were expecting twins almost two years ago and after much research I bought an Ubbi diaper pail (as well as their brand bags). Then a few weeks after the twins were born, I bought a second Ubbi for our main living room. For a while I liked that there was almost no smell when the bucket sliding door was closed. In that sense, Ubbi was a good diaper pail - it does a good job of capturing the smell of what's stored there just by walking by. But get ready for the smell that erupts when you open the sliding door to get rid of the diaper, and even more so when you need to clean it and take out the bag. I religiously wiped down the buckets with Lysol wipes, hosed them down and tried hanging charcoal bags in the bucket. nothing mattered. Oh, and plus, since they're made of steel, using wet wipes or liquid sprays to clean and maintain will quickly create a rusting problem. And one more thing: yes, there is a "lock" that will prevent your child from opening the Ubbi bin door, but there is no lock that will prevent them from lifting the entire lid and getting to the contents, so you'll soon find yourself using a munchkin strap or something to keep the whole bucket closed. If only I had bought a munchkin. I bought this in April 2019 to replace one of two Ubbis that had rusted so badly it was leaving marks on the floor and would have bought the second one if we weren't willing to team up on a baby changing station. The Munchkin is MUCH easier to clean and care for, and there's virtually no odor when discarding diapers. Even if you open the front door to take out the bag, the bag, the locking system and the Arm&Hammer deodorant contain the odor well. Since the bags themselves are smaller, you also have to empty the bucket more often than with the Ubbi, which helps. I've read reviews where people complained about having to manually close the lid after opening it with the pedal, but is that true? There is nothing. You have to push the diaper by hand but for me it's not a problem if the smell is contained what it is. ubi I wish the long side door closed a little more securely - it opens a little, although it's supposed to have a button to open, but I blocked everything with two Munchkin straps. I also wish the bottom of the jar had more surface area to allow for floor pads/bumpers to be fitted to protect the wooden floor from my twins who like to push the jar. And yes you have to buy their branded bags so there is some extra cost but for me with twins it was worth it. You would never guess that there is now a bucket for diapers in the room.
