UPDATE 2: 07/03/2018. If I could I would take it off without stars. This thing turned out to be complete HOOM. I've only used this a few times or so more than the last update and it's failed completely. The LCD screen barely works, the readings are inaccurate and are never read the same way twice. I held it next to the tape measure, and not only was it wrong, it gave me different incorrect readings every time I tried. UPDATE 1: Only used about a dozen times and the LCD screen is already failing. Otherwise I would have stayed at 4*. The first impression of this one is that it is of good quality. The packaging is made of high quality cardboard than normal cheap blister packaging. The instrument itself is in a leather carrying case (with belt loop and Velcro pocket) when open. The counter also has an attached strap. It's a good weight so you know you've got something on your hands. The control buttons are made of soft rubber material and produce an audible and tactile "click" when pressed. The body itself is encased in a harder rubber than plastic, which provides a better grip for the device. The screen backlight makes the screen easy to read in any light and can be turned off when not in use. I love that it also has a battery indicator on the top - this prevents you from running out of spare batteries when needed! Who would have thought I'd have to read the manual for that! Very multifunctional. The manual consists of 20 pages and covers all features and functions from using the meter for basic measurements to area/cubic and indirect (Pythagorean) calculations. Previously, it was fast and accurate for basic measurements, area calculations, and cubic calculations. I haven't tried the Pythagorean methods yet, although I suspect they will be as easy and accurate as the others. You can also use this thing to do additive measurements (point A to B + point B to C, etc.). ), additive area (e.g. several walls in one room or planning a floor in different rooms), additive cubic area (HVAC?). It also has a 'stake out' feature where you can set a predetermined distance (they used a 16" OC setup for example) and then move from point to point while maintaining the exact distance. All in all for interior design, painting, flooring, HVAC, electrical, etc. You won't be disappointed with the quick measurements and features. My snapping to a star is that it can't be used outdoors, not without creating white "targets" so you know where the laser is. So there are probably better alternatives for defining things like siding, fences, etc.
