Unlike other brands that cost less and have more spikes, these spikes are made of tungsten carbide and are durable. When walking in the city or suburbs, you walk on the sidewalk, and stainless steel spikes, unlike them, wear out quickly. The straps appear to be intelligently designed as they don't seem to suffer from direct contact with the pavement, at least compared to other cleated traction devices I've used in the past. I only started wearing them towards the end of our winter, so perhaps the wear and tear would be more obvious with more use of the straps (and rivets). But as a first approximation I would say they outperform most other traction devices in terms of wear. I've never had a problem with them staying on my shoes.
