These things are usually so expensive and I was very happy to find one that was affordable. I don't know why it took anyone so long to build a decent scratching post that doesn't cost more than $100. It's definitely more stripped down - the materials aren't as strong as the trees, which cost three times as much, but that's to be expected. Anyway, it doesn't matter. The quality is still good; the carpet is softer than usual, more like a fluffy fabric. If it's worn out I think it's pretty easy to repair or even reupholster. The hanging mouse toy is awesome and the cat loves to hit it. It is very easy to assemble and put in a box like a puzzle, which is very impressive. No extra space. Bigger cat trees will inevitably wobble a bit and that's my only issue with it. It's physics but makes me nervous! The cat doesn't seem to mind though. Installed in front of a sliding door, it spends a lot of time on the upper level, dozing or watching what's going on outside. He is so thrilled with it I have saved the box for easy disassembly and return. our move to Europe. It's probably easier when we get there to just buy another one, but he's so attached that I don't want to part with him.
