Rats are fun little creatures. They have a habit of delaying eating if you use a regular bowl and feed them once or twice a day. It's cute at first, but it can be painful when you realize they're burying all that food in the bedding and find a lot of food thrown away during cleaning. With this feeder, I no longer have to feed her regular food. on a daily basis, which allows me to focus on feeding her treats from time to time. Also, they stopped hiding food. My rats no longer hide their food because they know they have enough food ready. There are small holes at the bottom of the feeder, through which small crumbs are automatically filtered out when the feed is distributed. This feature is useful for keeping the inside of the feeder clean and also allows crumbs to be dumped directly under the feeder. You can easily get around this by placing a small pot underneath and dumping it out when you clean the cage.
