3 1/2 stars would be a better estimate, between "I'm fine" and "Like". If you need a multi-channel speakerphone with CLID and no answering machine, there are few options. I used an AT&T 993 for 3 years, but the 60-bar speakerphone hum and sticky buttons finally got me (AT&T uses an AC adapter and there's no explicit filter to eliminate the hum). The Cortelco is a good speakerphone and has a few manageable features. "Plus: Good receiver and hands-free sound. No hum! Clear, easy-to-read display that lights up at the right time. Ease of use in general. Cons: The keyboard is buffered and you can dial faster than the phone makes tones (not a problem). Adjusting speakerphone volume with the up/down keys doesn't always change the volume - sometimes you need to toggle the mute key for the volume adjustment to take effect. I'm not sure if this is a design flaw or just a problem with my phone. It's okay if you just press "mute" after adjusting the volume. When you mute the phone, the audio sometimes stays on mute even though the display shows the phone is not on mute. Toggling the audio again usually fixes this. It's a bit tricky because I don't know if the phone is offline until I hear people asking if I was offline. Again, I don't know if this is a design flaw or mine, but that's fine. The phone has a backup battery and the hands-free quality without power from the adapter makes it unusable. I wanted and got a decent speakerphone at a fair price with this purchase.
