Review on Canonical MAAS by Alonzo Weaver

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A great tool for automating deployments

The software works well, however it can be buggy at times and I have experienced this with both 12.04 LTS aswell as 14.04LTS - sometimes when you reboot or power up devices (iLO's) they need to re-provision themselves after initial configuration which makes life less than perfect! This usually happens in more complex environments where multiple servers are involved but also occurs if there has been some kind of an update that changes something fundamental about how things work internally rather than just adding new features/functionality etc.

So far so good though once everything seems stable again then all should run smoothly. As mentioned above we use Linux containers within our Virtual Machines and these benefit from using MAAS because it auto deploys images and updates them quickly without intervention by us.

Pros
  • MAAS is very easy to use and deploy and we have had good experience with it
Cons
  • Can be buggy at times and requires a lot of effort to setup initially to get it working correctly at times
