Review on πŸ“Ί Tablo Dual LITE DVR for Cord Cutters - WiFi, Live TV Streaming, Commercial Skip - Black [TDNS2B-01-CN] by Leo Govindan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great picture, easy-to-use instructions, good price, flexible expansion options.

Tabo Dual Lite was a big disappointment at first. At first I tried connecting via Wi-Fi, but not only was it difficult to set up, but the connection was never reliable. On WiFi, Tablo would disconnect at least once a day and never reconnect. My Google Wi-Fi mesh is giving a very strong signal, so I don't think it's my Wi-Fi. After struggling with this for a few days, I gave up Wi-Fi and connected it to one of the Google Mesh hotspots. This solved all connection problems. Since then, the connection to Tablo has been rock solid. The scoreboard is connected to an antenna in my attic. Draws at least 30 stations in my area and has never had any disturbances in the picture. Most of the major channels in my area are 720p and I have my Tablo set to its maximum bandwidth of 10Mbps. On a 55 inch screen, the picture is perfect. The picture is not perfectly sharp on my theater projector, but it is still very good. I added a $50 1TB USB3 drive for hundreds of hours of DVR capacity. The instructions work very well; Channel selection is as easy and convenient as a cable box, at least on an Apple TV. I still have a 30-day trial subscription to the guide, but I'll probably upgrade to a lifetime subscription if Tablo continues to work as well as it will after 30 days. Here are some notes about Tablo: It takes a long time for the spreadsheet to load the guide data for the first time. Tablo updated its firmware and rebooted while downloading the manual data for the first time and after that the guide became unusable so I had to go into settings and force the manual data to update. * If you find the scoreboard freezes or you can't find it on the network after setup, try connecting it to your router with an Ethernet cable. He seems so much happier.* The scoreboard gets hot and has no fan. So I wonder how long that will take. I keep it in a well-ventilated room with no other heat sources. Time will tell if excessive heat is a problem. I haven't tried this, but it might come in handy when traveling abroad where most streaming services are blocked. * If you cut the cord like me, it will go very well with Philo TV. The only thing I will miss is ESPN, FX and USA. I can live without them.* On Apple TV, you can switch channels without leaving the current channel. Just swipe down on the remote control. It lists other channels that you can watch. This isn't a complete guide, but it's helpful.

Pros
  • All basic live TV recording and playback features are supported without subscription. Advanced features (including auto-skipping of commercials, streaming from home, etc.) require a subscription.
Cons
  • Some small things
