Seems to work fine with some limitations

TLDR: Looks like this works well enough for my dog. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the styrofoam holds up. Don't trust cables. The pillow is almost flat but can be filled or replaced with something else. My 20kg dog Max used to sit in the front seat. He could barely see out of the windows and often vomited in the car. I wanted an extra seat so he could see better and maybe not lose his lunch. I ordered the large size because it is listed for pets under 25 pounds. (The average weighed up to 15 pounds.) The photo shows that he can lie down quite comfortably. At first he wasn't sure about sitting in the back seat and riding in a booster seat, but he quickly got used to it and seems quite happy with it. He didn't throw up in the car, which is a big advantage. It is easy to install and does not slide on the seat. He likes to sit and look out the windows. (The photo was taken after a long hike.) Now for the caveats. It's a huge block of styrofoam. The lid feels solid and I like that it's removable. Still, I paid $53 for the styrofoam. That annoyed me a little. The straps are thin, weightless and only sewn to the fabric cover. You can keep your pet in a booster during a relaxing ride. But I don't think they will keep a 20 pound dog safe if I often collapse or have an accident. I use a separate strap that goes around the headrest and attaches to its strap. The "cushion" is very thin and doesn't really offer much padding. But it would be easy enough to fill it with something else if I wanted, or replace it with a softer blanket or pillow. I drive a 2012 Prius and it's big enough to take up half of my back seat. I rarely have anyone in the back, so that's not a problem for me. A passenger can still ride in the back, but the middle seat is locked and the cup holder console cannot be folded down.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some bugs
