My husband usually wears sm-honey in US size men's shorts, pants and underwear (usually small). Right now his waist is about 32 inches. The size is just practical. That means it stays on his hips and doesn't fall off without stretching the elastic too much and keeping all 4 buttons closed. However, if you want to use this by releasing the buttons, some of the exposed buttons will touch your skin. They are made of plastic and seem uncomfortable to press on your waist. We haven't washed it yet, but most cotton fabrics used for towels don't shrink very much. My husband is 5ft 8" and this comes to about his knee length. Overall this is a very soft towel with some hairiness and I hope it lasts a long time without a lot of strands falling out. I will update my review if it shrinks badly in the wash or fails next year. 4 stars for the quality but one star off for the wrong size.
