Review on Sony STR DH790 7 2 Ch Receiver Vision by Christopher Gonzalez

Some oddities but worthy for the price

Overall this is a pretty good receiver for the price and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an entry level receiver with the basics. However, there are some specifics that you should consider before buying. No HDMI-CEC support. It may not matter to most people, but it should be mentioned anyway. If you don't know what CEC is, devices connected to the receiver can automatically turn the receiver on and off (and vice versa)2. The calibration process is terrible. I tried many times using the mic in different places but every time I calibrated it it sounded terrible. It always sets the subwoofer to the lowest dB setting and completely distorts the speaker distances. My advice: just do it all yourself and you'll end up with a much better sounding system. I use this receiver in a 5.2 configuration with woofers. After calibrating and tweaking all the settings (which are pretty easy to set up), the setup sounds pretty damn good. HDR works through Apple TV 4k and I have no video/audio issues when connected to a 2016 Samsung 4K TV.
