About 2 months ago my external keyboard and mouse were connected to my laptop via USB and turned off when the PC went to sleep. Upgrading to Windows 10 removed this ability and both accessories continued to work day and night. Since my office is in an alcove next to my bedroom, the light was inconvenient, not to mention a waste of energy. I've spent days searching the web for a Windows setting that could be changed, but nothing has helped. I'm glad I found this. The built-in switch allows me to turn off both accessories at the same time, freeing up a USB port. I attached the switch to the base of the monitor with "museum putty" so it's handy every time I leave my work station.
