These were purchased for a youth group to use camping. The radio cannot simply be programmed via the keyboard. It comes with a programming cable and you can download a free program for your computer. I am using Windows. I haven't tried the program on Mac. In order to get the transmission of the program, you must follow all the steps on the computer screen in the exact order in which they are prompted. I don't like that you can accidentally program the radio to a frequency you don't have a license for. Also, the putt button doesn't have the tactile feedback I'm used to on other radios.
